Privacy Policy

      Short version: Grovepin stores your notes locally on your device. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data. The only external network request is the optional AI summarise feature, which sends only your note text — nothing else.
    

1. Who we are

Grovepin is a Chrome extension developed by Umbrova. You can reach us at hello@umbrova.com.

2. What data Grovepin stores

All data created by Grovepin is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. This includes:

Your timestamped notes (pins) and their text
Session information — video URL, video title, platform name
Extension settings — keyboard shortcut preference, theme

This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 4 (AI summarise). It is not transmitted to Umbrova or any third party. It is not backed up to the cloud. Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all stored data.

3. What data we do not collect

Grovepin does not collect, transmit, or store:

Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
Browsing history or pages you visit
Video content or transcripts
Analytics, usage statistics, or crash reports
Cookies or tracking identifiers

There is no account system. No sign-up is required.

4. AI summarise feature

When you click "Summarise" (available after 7 or more pins), the extension sends a request to our backend service hosted on Cloudflare Workers. This request contains:

The text of your pins (your notes)
The video title
An anonymous identifier derived from your Chrome extension installation ID (not linked to your Google account or any personal information)

This data is used solely to generate a summary using the Anthropic Claude AI model. We do not store your notes on our servers. The request is processed and the response is returned immediately — nothing is logged or retained.

The anonymous installation ID is used only for rate limiting (10 free summaries per month per installation). It cannot be used to identify you personally.

Anthropic processes the note text as part of generating the summary. Their privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.

5. Permissions

Grovepin requests the following Chrome permissions and uses them as follows:

storage — to save your notes locally on your device
tabs — to detect which tab is active when opening the popup
activeTab — to inject the sidebar into the current video page
scripting — to run the sidebar content script on video pages
host_permissions (<all_urls>) — to detect video elements and inject the sidebar on any video platform the user visits, including platforms not known at install time

These permissions are used only for the core functionality described above and for no other purpose.

6. Third-party services

The AI summarise feature uses the following third-party services:

Cloudflare Workers — hosts our backend proxy. Cloudflare's privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
Anthropic Claude — processes note text to generate summaries. Anthropic's privacy policy: anthropic.com/privacy

7. Children's privacy

Grovepin is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
